Since last November artist Kate Pelen has been based at KTHC making new work that draws on her experience of the community healthcare context. Supported by Mel Hardwick of Free Space Gallery, she has explored the relevance and role of artistic interventions in the experience of primary and complementary care services, as well as the clinical setting as a site for artworks.
The residency exhibition will feature a variety of small and medium sized works on paper and lightweight sculptural experiments, combining various drawing, painting and needlework processes. In addition, two large window drawings will be on display. A few different bodies of work will be located in different spaces around the building, responding to its various functions as well as its strong architectural and interior design.
She has invited two artists whose work resonates with mine, Jayne Wilton and Anna Sikorska, to participate in the exhibition on Friday 28 March. We will lead an informal guided tour around the space from 7 to 8 pm, discussing the works and broader contexts as we go.
